REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Sept. 19, 2017 / PRNewswire / - In a live event today, Oracle Chief Executive Officer and Chief Technology Officer Larry Ellisonannounced new programs that reduce costs by offering greater flexibility and automation, enabling customers to achieve greater savings from their current Oracle software investments. Among the new Oracle Cloud programs are "Bring Your Own License to PaaS" and "Universal Credits."
"We are completely transforming the way all companies buy and use the cloud, providing flexibility and choice," Ellison said. "Today, we're combining lower prices with higher performance and more automation to deliver lower total cost of ownership to our customers."
While some companies can not wait to go to the cloud, many have not yet migrated because of obstacles that forced the choice between flexibility and cost savings. They have been challenged by cloud complexity and the inability to rebalance spending on different services. Companies have also been constrained by limiting visibility and control over spending on the cloud. So far, they have not yet been able to fully leverage their local software investments in the cloud, being limited to IaaS services or sacrificing important database features on the PaaS layer. Oracle's new cloud programs address customers' difficulties in adopting the cloud by improving and simplifying the way they buy and consume cloud services.
Bring Your Own License to Oracle Database PaaS: More Savings with License Mobility
Currently, customers can bring their local licenses to Oracle IaaS. Today, Oracle is expanding that offering, allowing customers to reuse their existing software licenses for Oracle PaaS, including Oracle Database, Oracle Middleware, Oracle Analytics, and others. Customers with local licenses can take advantage of this investment to use the Oracle Database Cloud at a fraction of the previous price of PaaS. Running the Oracle Database on Oracle IaaS is faster and offers more features than Amazon, offering the lowest total cost of ownership on the market. In addition, customers can further reduce the operational and managerial costs required for local maintenance by leveraging this PaaS automation.
Universal Credits: flexible purchasing and consumption choices for Oracle IaaS and PaaS services
Oracle is unveiling Universal Credits, the industry's most flexible purchasing and consumer model for cloud services. With Universal Credits, customers enter into a single agreement that provides unlimited access to all current and future Oracle PaaS and IaaS services, spanning Oracle Cloud and Oracle Cloud at Customer.Customers gain on-demand access to all services, in addition to the lower cost benefit of prepaid services. In addition, they have the flexibility to upgrade, expand, or migrate services between datacenters based on their needs. With Universal Credits, customers gain the ability to exchange the PaaS or IaaS services they are using without the need to notify Oracle. They also benefit by using new services with the existing set of cloud credits when they are available.
Oracle's new Universal Credits and Bring Your Own License to PaaS programs will be available September 25, 2017. These programs span Oracle Cloud and Oracle Cloud at Customer.
